You’ve never seen (or felt) an album release like this before.
In the world of streaming music, artists are always looking for ways to capture attention with an unexpected release.
TOKiMONSTA’s Lune Rouge drops today, and the LA producer/artist has found a way to up the ante: she’s paired up with TheWaveVR to launch a groundbreaking first for the music industry (and for VR): an interactive, live album experience. Part-show, part-album, part something totally new, the Lune Rouge Experience, launches this Sunday at 6pm PST.
Strangeloop, responsible for the first flagship show in TheWaveVR, and now the company’s Art Director, helped program a world that draws inspiration from the Lune Rouge album art. While dancing through this stylized rave, fans can remix the 3D world alongside the new tunes.
Harnessing the full power of VR, this remixing can occur among groups of people. This means that you can groove with fellow concert-goers in an unprecedented way—letting you beat slice loops that are synced with other players and paint with stems from the record and see the waveform drawn before your eyes.
“We wanted to do something special to support TOKi’s release, and create an entire world around the record,” said TheWaveVR’s CEO and Co-Founder Adam Arrigo in a statement. “Our goal as a company is to help artists create new experiences that let their fans get closer to their artistic vision. The Lune Rouge Experience lets fans literally step inside the album and experience her music in a new, interactive dimension.”
This marks the fifth flagship show on TheWaveVR platform, including Ash Koosha’s AKTUAL, which made headlines for marking another groundbreaking use of VR technology: letting the artist perform in a country he’d been banned from entering.
After being imprisoned and blacklisted in his home country for making rock music and films, Iranian-born Ash Koosha sought asylum in London, where he now lives. But in the wake of President Trump’s travel ban, Koosha had to cancel his US tour because of “extreme vetting” of his visa. So instead, he brought the show into VR—where American fans could enjoy his show in a non-traditional way.
Lune Rouge, TOKiMONSTA’s third album—and the first since she had to relearn how to write music after suffering a rare brain disease—is out today via label Young Art Records.
