The Sony Pictures Entertainment experiences are coming to a headset or location near you.
Hitting theaters in December, our favorite magical board game adventure film from the 90’s is coming back, this time starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan to name a few. And to coincide with the sequel’s release, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is also getting a magical VR adventure of its own.
Characteristic of Sony Pictures to release a VR adaptation for feature film releases that make sense in VR, teleporting yourself into the world of Jumanji thanks to VR is a dream come true for so many. Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) has teamed up with Madison Wells Media’s Reality One and VRX Networks to release Jumanji: The VR Adventure to coincide with the film release.
Jumanji: The VR Adventure will immerse you in a fully interactive 3D jungle where you can control your favorite movie characters as they build a team and set out to lift the curse of Jumanji while outwitting evil henchmen and evading dangerous wildlife. Jumanji: The VR Adventure will be available at VRX Networks’ virtual reality kiosks in movie theaters and shopping malls. The VR experience will debut at 50 locations across the United States and UK, with plans to expand to South America, Asia and Australia in advance of the Jumanji motion picture release.
Following the launch of Jumanji: The VR Adventure, Sony Pictures also teased that Hotel Transylvania 3 will be getting a VR experience as well in 2018.
In 2016, Sony Pictures VR announced their partnership with Reality One to develop VR experiences based off a slate of motion pictures and franchises, leading with the release of Passengers: Awakening VR Experience. The Sony team also collaborated with THE VOID in 2016 to launch Ghostbusters: Dimension in which fans got to battle against supernatural foes. In June, the studio unveiled Spider-Man: Homecoming VR, a multi-platform VR experience in which players don the superhero’s costume and test their web-slinging skills.
Jumanji: The VR Adventure will be available at VR locations worldwide as well as in-home on PlayStation VR, Steam VR, Viveport and the Oculus Store.
