Dior Creates Custom VR Headsets For Backstage Access

Dior VR Headset

French luxury goods and fashion label Dior has created their own custom branded VR headset to give viewers a look behind the runway curtains.

With fashion runway shows becoming larger entertainment events that are live-tweeted and Instagrammed to death, the one private area left has always been the hustle and bustle of backstage. Now the exclusivity of fashion show backstages is about to get some virtual exposure with the Dior head-mounted display.

In what the brand is calling Dior Eyes, the headset is a custom-built execution to engage with clients and give even more exclusive access in addition to what some may already be accustomed to such as sitting front row on the runway.

Dior Eyes isn’t just a painted or wrapped Google Cardboard or Samsung GearVR headset. The custom fabricated Dior VR headset, co-created by Dior with DigitasLBi Labs France, appears to be using a Samsung Note 4 for the screen, with an all black 3D printed housing that wraps around the viewers face. Headphones are built into the headset as well as in all its Dior glory; a subtle glowing logo shines from the outside of the goggles.

In a video uploaded by Dior on Youtube, Dior Eyes headset wearers are shown around the often tucked away backstage where designers (in this case, Raf Simmons) bring the latest in luxury fashion to the stage. Much like the Dior Eyes itself, models and staff are wrapped in dark black fashion, with hints of shine and glamour, all preparing to make their runway debut.

Dior Eyes will be available to the public in select stores starting next month.
