New missions, tougher battles, and better weapons arrive as part of this massive free update, available soon on major VR headsets.
Skydance Interactive has officially released their Aftershocks update for their highly acclaimed VR survival horror game, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and boy does it deliver! Aftershocks introduces new weapons, items, and survival tools for you to employ as you make your way through hours of brand new missions that will take you through the eerie streets of a post-apocalyptic New Orleans.
That said, this isn’t your typical VR game update. Aftershocks is just the beginning of something much larger for Skydance Interactive and The Walking Dead universe. As Mark Domowicz, Project Director at Skydance Interactive said a few months back when talking about Aftershocks, “it’s a small appetizer for bigger things yet to come!”
As you would expect, Aftershocks builds off of your experiences from the main campaign. Everything you have learned, from fighting to puzzle-solving, will be essential as you search for hidden Reserve caches.
Because this all takes place after the events of the main campaign, you’ll sometimes follow clues leading to hidden supplies only to find out that someone else has beaten you to it. Or you might find yourself heading down a path only to be cornered by a herd of walkers, or worse, stuck between a battle of walkers and rival gangs. This isn’t some minor update; it’s an entirely new game! You’ll definitely revisit places from the main campaign, but you’ll also explore new locations, face more complex puzzles, and participate in bigger fights between both zombies and humans.
Aftershocks was designed to be a “thank you” to the fans according to Domowicz, who is incredibly grateful for the support Skydance Interactive has seen since the game was released.
So far I’m only a couple of hours into the update, but I can tell you right now that a lot of care and attention was put into the extra gory “fan letter.” The free Aftershocks Update is available to anyone who’s already completed the main campaign of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. Sounds easy enough!
During an interview with VRScout, Skeeva, Co-Host of the Between Realities VR Podcast, talked about his expectations regarding the update, saying, “I loooooved Saints and Sinners, and I was so sad when it was over. This adds another 6 to 8 hours of new story to the campaign!”
“I’m just stoked to be back in the amazing world of The Walking Dead fending off the undead. I really love the mechanics of this game and am so so excited to be part of that world again.”
The Aftershocks Update is dark, gory, and insanely fun. It’s also free and available tomorrow to anyone who has completed the main campaign as downloadable content.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is available on Oculus Quest and Rift (with support for cross-buy), PlayStation VR, and SteamVR headsets for $39.99.
