Sales start March 9th at 10am PT via the Steam digital storefront.
With the launch of Valve’s highly-anticipated VR first-person shooter Half-Life: Alyx less than three weeks away, those without VR headsets are clamoring to get their hands on anything capable of running the graphically-intense Half-Life prequel/sequel hybrid. Of course, the most immersive experience will come from using the Valve Index, a beastly piece of VR hardware featuring dual 1440×1600 RGB LCDs, ultra near-field flat-panel speakers, and custom pressure-sensitive “Knuckles” controllers.
Despite the daunting $999 price tag, Valve Index has proved a hit among dedicated VR enthusiasts, offering arguably the highest-quality consumer VR experience available at the moment. So much so that Valve has actually had a difficult time keeping up with consumer demand since the headset’s release this past June. Thankfully, Valve is swooping in at the last minute with a new supply of Index headsets that will go on sale this Monday, March 9th.
Users will need to visit the Steam storefront via a web browser or dedicated client at 10am PT/1pm ET, at which point the full Valve Index VR Kit—which includes the headset, controllers, two 2.0 base stations, and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx—will be made available for purchase. Those interested will need to be in front of their computers at the stroke of 10 to even have a chance at picking one up.
Those who already own an Index can hop onto SteamVR now and download two new Home environments inspired by Half-Life: Alyx.
Half-Life: Alyx launches on SteamVR March 23rd for $59.99.
