When Facebook launched 360 video back in September, not only did a whole new platform open up for content creators to distribute immersive videos they were already shooting, but brands and creators who had never shot 360 video before now had another reason to start.
Since then we have seen 360 videos with topics ranging from sports, fashion, entertainment, news and so many other subject matters in-between. We at VRScout even experimented with bringing you the first hosted 360 video series, transporting you through videos from some of our favorite creators and in our latest video, showing you the true power of immersive journalism.
With the constant flow of 360 videos hitting Facebook on a daily basis, we thought we would share the 10 most popular 360 videos according to Facebook thus far in 2016.
The #1 most popular 360 video to date is surprisingly from ABC News that takes you into a blizzard from the middle of New York City’s Times Square. The top 10 list also includes a fan favorite for the opening credits of Game of Thrones, which happened to be the most-viewed 360 video in the first 24 hours, hitting 5.3 million views in one day. There is also a popular mix of videos from European football teams FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC making its way into the list.
360 video support on Facebook allows you to watch on desktop by letting you move around and explore the scene from different perspectives with your cursor or on mobile devices by dragging with your finger or turning your device.
You can also watch these video on Oculus Rift and Gear VR, by simply clicking “Watch in VR” in the top left corner of the video, place the phone in the Gear VR, and experience the video in an immersive VR environment. You can find more videos on the Facebook 360 channel in the Oculus Video app on Gear and Rift.
