In an announcement on the Oculus blog today, Oculus has decided to take “more time before release” of the Oculus Touch controllers and has delayed shipping until the second half of 2016.
I’m sure there are a few disappointed fans that were expecting an Oculus Touch ship date within a few month window of the Oculus Rift launch. Pre-orders for the Touch will open a few months prior to launch, which means we could get our order in as soon as Q2 or Q3 of 2016.
Oculus does go on to say that they are producing “larger numbers of pre-production runs”, which means if you are a developer, you have better chance of getting your hands on the Touch hardware sooner.
At Oculus Connect 2 VRScout previewed some of the latest experiences utilizing the Touch controllers, definitely setting a new bar when it comes to VR input devices.
The Oculus Rift ship date is on schedule for Q1 2016 with pre-orders launching very soon. CES anyone? Waiting is hard.
