Google’s Daydream View VR headset comes to stores November 10th. But if you’re in the New York area and want to try the headset before you buy it in retailers like Verizon and Best Buy, you can stop by Google’s pop-up shop in the heart of SoHo.
The pop-up shop that opened October 20th, is open all week (10AM – 8PM) for people to check out the Pixel phone, Google Home, and Daydream VR headset. The shop doesn’t actually sell any products, it’s more of a hands-on showroom, but you can still touch, feel and rock the super soft Daydream View headset on your face.
The Daydream View section of the retail space looks like the low poly Daydream Home forest scene and features swivel stools that also look like low poly tree stumps or boulders. Pick up a Daydream View headset with controller and have a seat. You can check out YouTube VR, Wonderglade, Fantastic Beasts, or Street View.
The heavily trafficked, upscale shopping area is in an ideal location for drawing in curious consumers, getting thousands of people through the pop-up shop per day, many who are likely trying VR for the first time.
The temporary location is hard to miss with a giant Google flag flying outside the location. Located on 96 Spring St, you can even book time with a Google guide to help you get up to speed with your new Pixel phone. You’ll meet in a group of five people or less so you’ll be able to ask questions and test out your Pixel with the guidance of a specialist.
Last month, Google announced Daydream View, their light and comfortable VR headset and controller powered by any Daydream-ready phone. It will be available November 10th on the Google Store and at retailers across five countries:
- United States: Verizon, Best Buy; $79 (USD)
- Canada: Bell, Rogers, Telus, Best Buy; $99 (CAD)
- United Kingdom: EE, Carphone Warehouse; £69 (GBP)
- Germany: Deutsche Telekom; €69 (EUR)
