Dodge laser traps while exploring a massive volcano hideaway in this latest mini golf course.
Since launching on VR headsets in 2020, Walkabout Mini Golf, Mighty Coconut’s VR mini golf simulator, has received a number of updates in the form of new and exciting DLC courses. This includes everything from “Sweetopia,” a confectionary fantasyland composed of all manner of delicious-looking obstacles, to “Atlantis,” a sprawling underwater course inspired by the mythical aquatic city.
Earlier this month, Walkabout Mini Golf launched its 20th course, “Laser Lair.” Set on a volcanic island in the South Pacific, this diabolical course has you putting through the deadly compound of supervillain Dr. Magnus Caldwell. The only things stopping you from sinking a hole-in-one are the deadly lasers scattered throughout every inch of the menacing facility.
The official description states: “Dr. Magnus Caldwell is the head of L.A.I.R., the foremost supervillain society in the world. From his compound on a volcanic island in the South Pacific, he hosts lavish parties for corrupt business people and fellow evildoers. He has a penchant for modern early sixties design, with bold, confident curves and a retro-future vibe. But being a supervillain is hard work, and what’s the point if you can’t kick back and enjoy it? His attached bachelor pad is a lavishly decorated affair with stunning views, a hot-spring-fed grotto, and practice dojo, all conveniently located just a few steps away from the giant flying robot mech being built in his own image. His evil plan is to use the giant robot to take over the world.”
This latest course features 18 easy mode and 18 hard mode holes to complete. There are also 18 new lost balls to collect, two commemorative putters, an original soundtrack, evil avatars, and various easter eggs, such as an interactive beach ball. Hard mode offers its own unique challenges, such as a “unique” scavenger hunt that will have you searching for several Exploding Kittens.
What I appreciate most about the new course is the team’s attention to detail. From the robot drones serving drinks on a platter to the unattended lasers cutting holes through sandwiches on the desks, every inch of Laser Lair is littered with fun little moments to enjoy.
Walkabout Mini Golf is available now for $14.99 on Meta Quest, PC VR, Pico, and PlayStation VR2 headsets as well as select arcade partners. Laser Lair can be purchased for an additional $3.99. According to Mighty Coconut, this latest course is the first DLC in the new game’s new “Evil Lairs” series.
