A new update lets you blow up even more sh*t from the comfort of a military grade kayak.
The reviews are in and players are loving Phantom: Covert Ops. nDreams’ tactical stealth shooter has you stepping into the boots of a highly-trained covert operative tasked with stopping a disgraced former Soviet General named Nikolia Zhurov from triggering WWIII, all from the seat of a military-grade kayak. We loved our time with this unique stealth adventure, calling it “one of the more refreshing VR stealth games I’ve played on the Oculus Rift/Rift S and Oculus Quest.”
But don’t just take our word for it. Take a look at some of these glowing player reviews:
- “We asked for real, full length, immersive games on Quest and now we are getting them! Devs pay attention, this is how you get my 30 bucks on launch day.” – Meatballmachine
- “Yes it’s bringing your Quest to it’s knees with all stuff we’ve wished for, graphics, big levels, a lot of enemies, guns with scopes and silencers, and smooth locomotion. It really is Solid Snake in a canoe.” – Tummie555
- “Everything about this game so far feels so natural…. the kayaking mechanics are superb and really spot on, the game oozes quality in its concept, uniqueness and execution. The developers have a great history of making quality VR games and it shows with this title.” – ParadiseDecay
These are just some of the hundreds of positive reviews that nDreams’ Phantom: Covert Ops is receiving at Oculus.com. Now, with the release of the games first free update, fans will have even more to rave about as they paddle their way through new explosive challenges.
Available free download for on the Oculus Rift/Rift S and the Oculus Quest, Challenge Pack 1 introduces several big updates that promise to bring new levels of tension, immersion, and excitement to what is already a beautifully-crafted VR stealth-action adventure.
First up we have a brand new weapon, “Loose Cannon,” a powerful infinite ammunition grenade launcher guaranteed to send enemies flying off docks. The free pack also introduces several new game modes. “Broadside” drops you in the middle of a watery shooting range for some good old-fashioned target practice. “Powder Keg” turns the heads of high-valuable targets into, well, powder kegs. “Unfathomable,” a difficult time-trial challenge, reverses the controls of your kayak, leading to some truly frantic moments. And finally, there’s “Target Hunt,” a shooting gallery-style challenge that has you paddling around the map in search of enemy cardboard cut-outs.

What makes Phantom: Covert Ops so unique is that the entire game takes place from a kayak. It’s definitely offers a new approach to the stealth genre, with players already comparing it to classic titles such as Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid.
The gameplay, the graphics, the physics, and the story feel absolutely amazing in VR; the opening sequence alone is one of the most jaw-dropping sequences I’ve experienced in a VR headset.
nDreams created a true masterpiece with Phantom: Covert Ops, and this first Challenge Pack is guaranteed to keep players coming back for more tactical kayak action.
Phantom: Covert Ops is available now for the Oculus Rift/Rift S and the Oculus Quest at Oculus.com along with the free Challenge Pack 1.
