The final chapter in Gordan Freeman’s epic saga can now be experienced in VR.
In September 2022, the Source VR Mod Team released a VR mod for Half-Life 2, immersing players in Valve’s near-perfect first-person shooter game like never before. The mod introduced everything from full room-scale VR with support for motion controls to manual reloading, two-handed weapon handling, and various comfort settings, including teleportation.
In March of the following year, the team upped the ante with Half-Life 2: VR Mod – Episode One, a custom VR mod for the episodic sequel, available on all SteamVR-compatible VR headsets.
Today, the Source VR Mod Team tied a metaphorical bow on its epic Half-Life modding campaign with the release of Half-Life 2: VR Mod – Episode Two. Like the previous mods listed above, this latest VR mod is available free to download on SteamVR headsets such as Valve Index, HTC VIVE, and Meta Quest (with Air Link) and introduces full VR support to the entire single-player campaign.
That said, you do need to own a copy of the original game in order to play; Half-Life 2: Episode Two is currently available for $7.99 via Steam. You’ll also need to have Half-Life 2: VR Mod – Episode One (available free on Steam) installed on the same drive.
