You can now experience all of Disney’s VR movie experiences in a single app.
Disney has released a new VR experience for fans that own a HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. The Disney Movies VR app brings together all of the company’s VR experiences to date like The Jungle Book, Star Wars and Marvel Avengers within Steam VR.
Whether you have an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, the Disney Movies VR app is available to check out and download now.
The app is described as “a fully-immersive Disney experience where you can visit themed worlds, including Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, and interact with some of your favorite characters in their natural environments.” You will see a mix of experiences to choose from, everything from 3D 360° video to a Junglebook VR experience.
The Star Wars experience like “Jakku Spy” may already be available as a mobile VR app, but Disney Movies VR also includes a 360° red carpet premiere video for Captain America: Civil War and a variety of Junglebook experiences like “Trust in me,” “Cold Lairs” and a 360° video interview with the cast. These are experiences I am sure the kids will enjoy.
All the offerings available right now are pretty slim and for the most part just 360° videos that were used for marketing purposes prior, but the launch of the app is a clear indication that Disney is focused on pursuing VR further and we can only hope for more room-scale VR experiences to be added soon.
We’re still hoping to get some lightsaber action on in VR with Trials of Tatooine soon Disney, can’t wait.
