Even more reason to spend hours in VR.
Last month we started seeing early hints that PSVR would begin supporting 360-degree videos within the YouTube app. As Engadget pointed out though, only some early PSVR owners got the update — which was reported as being poor in quality with videos capped at 1080p.
Now it looks like PlayStation may have ironed out all the kinks from their early tests — announcing an update for the YouTube app that will let you watch 360-degree videos in headset.
The newly added support for YouTube’s app will let you step beyond a giant virtual screen floating in front of you and explore the world in 360-degrees.
Considering the massive library of 360-degree videos that is YouTube, today’s update should be a pleasant surprise for many PSVR owners and help keep you busy during a cold winter snow day.
In November, SuperData released revised sales estimates for the PlayStation VR, downgrading the figure to roughly 745k units in 2016 (their previous estimate was 2.6 million), likely due to Sony taking a more prudent approach in holding back marketing spend until the company can better position the PSVR with their upgraded Pro console system — and of course get YouTube 360 videos on the platform, right?
