Bid on NFT artwork from popular NFT artists to help rebuild Haiti after this year’s devastating earthquake.
This past August the southern region of Haiti was hit by a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the mountains between the Nippes Department and Sud Department, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries along with severe damage to numerous schools throughout the region.
To help rebuild Haiti, the organization Hope for Haiti and VR company FXG are partnering for a live VR fundraiser called “Inspiring Hope: An Immersive Virtual Reality Experience in Haiti.” Taking place on October 6th, the companies hope to raise an ambitious $50k for earthquake relief.
During the event, which will be hosted on hic et nunc and OpenSea, you’ll have the opportunity to bid on a variety of incredible NFT artworks created by well-known NFT artists such as Sutu, Mark Saab, Nygilia, RiniiFish, more. You can also help by making a donation.
As a guest, you’ll be able to interact and mingle with other attendees using a customizable avatar and chat with the artists themselves as well as members from Hope for Haiti and FXG. All proceeds raised from the NFT auction will go directly to supporting southern Haiti, including Hope for Haiti’s School Reconstruction Fund, which assists in the reconstruction of schools that were damaged or destroyed.
The organizers of “Inspiring Hope: An Immersive Virtual Reality Experience in Haiti” will also be launching an app called Haiti VR that attendees will be able to preview during the event. The app will be publicly available on the Oculus App Lab immediately after the event. Haiti VR is designed to give you a taste of what life in Haiti was like before the earthquake. You can explore a three-room school and interact with a well, chalkboard, and flag pole among other exploratory features.
The event will also feature a variety of presentations, including a summary of Hope for Haiti’s work from CEO Skyler Badenoch, as well as presentations of the NFT pieces by the artists themselves. Of course, there will be other presenters there to provide you with general information on school life in Haiti and how you can get involved.
The live event will be limited to a small number of people. Those interested will need to fill out an application. Acceptance is based on your intent to donate to the relief fund.
Max Noir, Head of FXG Technology in North America, told VRScout, “Its purpose is to be an event space for Hope for Haiti, and to enable people to have an experience of Haiti where they can learn more about it and schools in Haiti, through a beautiful, social VR experience,” Noir adds, “They plan to be able to bring their community of donors through it as well, educate the public about Haiti by showing them more positive sides of the country that the media fails to reflect.”
Moving forward, organizers hope to build upon the Haiti VR app by introducing additional map locations and interactions, the goal being to showcase the many positive aspects of Haiti.
“Inspiring Hope: An Immersive Virtual Reality Experience in Haiti” will take place inside of a custom VR app on October 20th at 6pm PT / 9pm ET. If you’d like to attend you can fill out an application using the here.
