Kaleidoscope Virtual Reality Film Festival Has Arrived

The traveling virtual reality film festival will visit 10 cities across North America and showcase films from Chris Milk, Aaron Bradbury, and many others.

Virtual reality agency Kaleidoscope and immersive video platform Vrideo have unveiled the Kaleidoscope VR Film Festival, a multi-city tour set to showcase the best in virtual reality filmmaking.

The first stop in the tour will kick off in Portland, OR, on August 22. In what appears to be the first of its kind, the Kaleidoscope VR Film Festival will be an event series exclusively featuring virtual reality films made by independent artists.

The VR film festival, presented by Vrideo, will involve panels and demos from top VR filmmakers and industry members. Attendees will get a hands-on opportunity to experience the full line-up of films on Samsung Gear VR headsets as well as Oculus Rift VR headsets.

Much like the mission here at VRScout for raising the visibility of VR as the new frontier of film and entertainment, Kaleidoscope is hoping to highlight this rapidly developing sector of the film industry and the community of skilled and innovative filmmakers behind it with the festival.

“Kaleidoscope shares our goal of shining a spotlight on cutting edge VR films and supporting these visionary filmmakers,” said Vrideo Founder & CEO Alex Rosenfeld. “As the leading platform for immersive video, we’re proud to partner with the groundbreaking Kaleidoscope Film Festival as it travels across North America showcasing the astounding works this new medium is capable of creating.”

The inaugural festival will visit Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Montreal, Toronto, New York City & Austin. Films in the 2015 line-up have been sourced from filmmakers all over the world, from the U.S. and Canada, to the Netherlands and Czech Republic, among others.

Tickets for all festival stops are available for purchase at Eventbrite. Entry will run you $15 ($10 for students) or $99 for VIP passes to skip the lines.
