This eSports documentary episode follows one team’s journey to the 2016 Intel Extreme Masters World tournament in virtual reality.
Cinematic VR publisher, Jaunt, has partnered up with one of the world’s largest eSports companies to launch their first episode in a series of VR documentaries. The series is intended to bring to life the world of competitive gaming, starting with this first episode titled CLG: Win Everythin’.
The series is being made in partnership with ESL, working with Jaunt to capture and develop a series of immersive VR documentaries and experiences for all Intel Extreme Masters tournaments, beginning with IEM Shanghai, July 28-31, 2016. The VR experiences will chronicle the crazy tournament world of ESL featuring today’s elite eSport teams and athletes driving storylines from around the globe including pros such as Hydra, “Darshan” and “Aphromoo.”
“We are pleased to bring ESL’s thrilling eSports world to life in cinematic virtual reality for the first time,” said David Anderman, Chief Business Officer of Jaunt. “Virtual reality brings a whole new level of fan engagement to eSports, prime for ESL’s audiences who want to connect with their favorite athletes and experience the pulse-racing thrills and live action of far-away tournaments.”
The CLG: Win Everythin’ VR experience draws you into the Los Angeles-based team’s very personal and inspiring story, as you experience the daily routines, passion and dedication required for this team of elite eSports athletes to prepare for competition at the highest level. The six-minute VR experience culminates with the trials and tribulations of the team, the oldest professional League of Legends team active to this day. Team players featured in CLG: Win Everythin’ include: Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya; Jake Kevin “Xmithie” Puchero; Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black; Jae-Hyun “HuHi” Choi; and Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes.
Just to be clear, this is not a documentary on VR eSports but an eSports documentary shot in VR. We know VR eSports are coming and we’re hyped — just not yet.
Jaunt has been on a roll lately releasing multiple documentary series, including a personal journey with Paul McCartney and a collaboration with Camp4 Collective that takes you on a journey with extreme athletes.
With eSports being one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the world, Jaunt is hoping to capitalize on millions of passionate game enthusiasts who may look to the new medium as a supplement to current live streaming experiences available today.
You can find the full experience by heading over to the Jaunt VR App for iOS, Android, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Desktop 360 to view CLG: Win Everythin’.
