Social VR Platform ‘High Fidelity’ Announces Its First VR Festival

The FUTVRE LANDS VR festival will feature contests with cash prizes, giveaways, and a live musical performance by a Grammy-nominated artist.

Founded by Second Life founder and former CEO Philip Rosedale, social VR platform High Fidelity is hosting its first festival event held entirely within their virtual metaverse.

Launching November 17th as part of Virtual Reality Day, a 24-hour celebration of VR/AR across 50 cities and countries, FUVRE LANDS is a free VR entertainment festival event allowing users on multiple platforms to dive into various social experiences and limited-time events.

This extensive line-up of games and shows include the debut of a brand-new game hosted by a live DJ, a live theatrical performance, a marketplace bazaar, and the return of the “Last Avatar Standing” trivia game show, a fan-favorite among the High Fidelity community; all of which capped off by a real-time VR performance by 80’s synth-pop icon and five-time Grammy nominee Thomas Dolby. Users will also have the opportunity to take home some cash in the $1,000 Best Avatar contest, as well as the $700 Best Domain (virtual world) competition.

“Our goal is to make High Fidelity an Internet-scale technology that allows anyone to create and share their VR experience in real-time,” said Philip Rosedale, CEO and founder of High Fidelity. “At FUTVRE LANDS, we’ll bring more people in VR together at the same time than ever before. For VR newcomers, it’s a fun way to dive into virtual reality to see what’s possible beyond video gaming. For our community of VR creators, it’s a chance to celebrate VR’s rapid progress toward more mainstream users.”

Since launching their beta in 2016, High Fidelity has developed into a fully featured real-time social VR platform capable of supporting 500 active players in a single space. Users are free to explore new worlds, participate in various multiplayer games, and attend numerous special in-game events. The companies open-source software encourages users to create and share their own content and domains, allowing them to monetize their efforts using High Fidelity Coins (HFC), a custom cryptocurrency that powers the High Fidelity in-game economy.

FUTVRE LANDS VR festival takes place November 17th from 12pm – 4pm PT on the High Fidelity platform. Compatible VR headsets include the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Google Daydream-compatible Android smartphones, and desktop. Those located in San Francisco can also visit the companies VR Studio in-person where they can log-in to all the action using VR headsets provided by High Fidelity.

Tickets are available free here.
