Facebook Launches Social VR ‘Spaces’ On HTC Vive

It’s now cross-platform.

Facebook’s social hangout VR app, Spaces, just got even more social. Now available for the HTC Vive, Spaces added cross-platform functionality for the first time Tuesday, letting you hang out with friends on both the Vive and the Oculus Rift.

Own a Vive? Click here to download Spaces today.

For you Vive owners, you’ll find all the same features as the Rift version—you can create your own avatar, view Facebook photos and 360 videos, play games, draw with markers, go Live, make Messenger video calls, and take selfies.

“This is our first expansion onto a new platform, but it’s only the beginning: We’re working to bring Facebook Spaces to even more VR platforms and devices in the future, so stay tuned,” said Rachel Franklin, Head of Social VR at Facebook in an announcement.

Earlier this year, Facebook doubled down on social VR with the unveiling of Spaces. The VR app takes some of the best social features of Facebook and brings them into your VR space, letting you spend time with friends and family. You can watch 360° videos together, make video calls, or draw in a 3D space.

In July, Facebook added the ability to live stream from within the app, letting you broadcast directly to your Facebook timeline in real time using Facebook Live. Then last month, Facebook revealed their first social VR mini-game within Spaces, letting you compete against friends in a quirky fishing competition.

VR is always better with friends.
