‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ Adds Horde Mode Next Month On Quest

Battle endless waves of walkers to earn points and unlock additional weaponry.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners had one hell of a year. According to developer Skydance Interactive, the VR survival horror experience has generated over $29 million since its launch roughly a year ago on SteamVR and the Oculus Rift/Rift S. The RPG shooter was even nominated for several prestigious industry awards, including “Best VR/AR Game” at the 2020 Game Awards.

In addition to the impressive numbers listed above, Skydance today unveiled a new horde mode on its way to the Oculus Quest/Quest 2 that will have you battling it out against never-ending waves of flesh-hungry zombies.

Launching next month as a free update to existing owners, “The Trial” does away with the campaign and role-playing elements of the game to focus entirely on combat. Each wave you survive earns you points you can spend on additional weaponry and crafting items in between rounds. The smoother your kills, the more points you earn. The further you progress the more difficult the game becomes.

“The Trial” will arrive February 4th as a free update for existing Oculus Quest/Quest 2 owners. Why only the Oculus Quest you ask? According to Skydance, Saints & Sinners sold 10x as many copies on Facebook’s standalone headset than the Oculus Rift/Rift S. No word yet on whether or not the update is heading to PSVR or PC VR headsets.

We absolutely loved our time with this surprisingly-dark apocalyptic shooter. The melee combat system is easily one of the most impressive we’ve experienced in a VR game, offering realistic physics-based interactions that are as gruesome as they are satisfying. Add to that a captivating plot, unique crafting system, and the ability to make decisions that impact your experience, and you have one of the most polished VR experiences currently available on the Oculus Quest 2.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is available now for $39.99 via the Oculus Store, Steam, PlayStation Store, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners’ official website.
