Hollywood Is Throwing A Big VR Conference Next Month

The two-day summit takes place at Paramount Studios October 13-14.

October is going to be a busy month for VR. Google is set to debut their Daydream platform, Oculus is hosting their third annual developer conference and Sony will finally release their PlayStation VR headset.

But if you can’t get enough VR in one month like us or maybe you’re more interested in the intersection of Hollywood and immersive technology, you’ll probably want to add one more to that list.

Starting October 13th, VR On The Lot will bring some of the largest movie studios together like Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Disney, NBC Universal and DreamWorks for a two-day conference at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

The newly formed VR Society announced the VR On The Lot industry gathering, which will include keynotes from X-Men’s Bryan Singer and Robert Stromberg of The Martian VR Experience and Disney’s Maleficent. There is also expected to be a packed schedule of talks, premieres and hands-on demos.

Some of the demos and premieres will be coming from the likes of LIFE VR, VIVE, Virtual Reality Company, Oculus, Legend, Loot Interactive and The Third Floor. LIFE VR is slated to launch this fall, but will be premiering new content programming at the conference from Time Inc.’s 25+ brands, including TIME, People, Sports Illustrated and InStyle.

More than 20 other sessions will share case studies and address topics including VR best practices, writing, producing, directing, cameras, audio, stitching, theatrical, broadcast and cable, education and gaming. Session speakers will address key aspects of VR including production in live VR and game engine. Research findings from studies conducted for the Society by Greenlight VR and Frank N. Magid Associates will also be released, as well as how advertisers are using VR.

“This is an exciting time for VR as new products and technologies bring truly immersive experiences to mainstream users,” said Dr. Lisa Su, president and CEO of AMD, who is the presenting sponsor of the conference. “’VR On The Lot’ is more than just a showcase for premiering cutting-edge new VR experiences, the event provides a great opportunity for leaders from the technology and content industries to come together to better understand and address the growing VR business opportunities.”

Educational partners include Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Wemersive will live stream the event in 360 VR and will be providing the mobile VR apps for VR On The Lot and The VR Society.

You can expect us to be there covering the conference, so be sure to stay tuned. For tickets and more information, visit the website: vronthelot.com
