The Void VR Theme Park Coming to NY Times Square

The Ghostbusters experience opens at Madame Tussauds this Summer.

We have visited The Void virtual reality theme park based in Utah a couple times now and it’s one of our favorite experiences. The immersive VR experience that let’s walk around virtual worlds wearing a VR headset and haptic vest while coming into contact with physical objects and convincing sensations is the next level for theme parks.

It’s been a year since we first stepped into The Void, but now a new VR experience based on The Ghostbusters is making its way to New York this summer.

To celebrate the return of The Ghostbusters movie this Summer, The Void has teamed up with Sony Pictures to develop their first public installation that will have you strap on a proton pack, feel the rumble of the proton gun in your hands, and go on a epic adventure to track and trap ghosts through a New York apartment complex.

The New York experience is being called Ghostbusters: Dimension and will open on July 1st, in advance of the film’s July 15th release, marking the first experience from The Void open to the public.

“Ghostbusters is an amazing property that has kept fans enthralled for decades, so as we roll out immersive VR experiences around the world, we’re thrilled to have Sony Pictures on board as our first studio collaboration, working with us to develop a truly memorable experience that will have fans talking for years to come,” said Ken Bretschneider, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at THE VOID.

Construction of this “multi-layered and sensory environment” at Madame Tussauds New York is already underway and is being developed in collaboration with Ivan Reitman, who directed the original film, and Paul Feig, who’s behind the remake.

“Who wouldn’t want to answer the call, suit up as a Ghostbuster, and blast their way through a ghost-infested New York apartment with a proton pack?” said Jake Zim, senior VP of digital marketing at Sony Pictures. “We expect this experience will draw fans of all ages to Madame Tussauds and generate a lot of buzz around the release of our new Ghostbusters film this summer.”

So get ready to grab a friend this Summer if you’re in the area. Tickets to the Ghostbusters: Dimension experience at Madame Tussauds start at $49.75. You must be 13 years of age or older to wage battle against paranormal activity.
