“Let’s get one thing straight: Accountancy is a mature profession and is not for children.”
VR game developer Squanchtendo Games officially announced their debut VR title this week and it is EXACTLY what I would expect from the minds that gave us the hit show Rick and Morty. What does that mean exactly? Well, much like Rick and Morty, Accounting starts off fairly innocently, only to quickly descend into a level of madness only Justin Roiland (Co-creator of Rick & Morty/CEO of Squanchtendo) could possibly come up with. The HTC Vive exclusive was co-developed by indie darling Crows Crows Crows who are the same guys that brought us the breakout hit, The Stanley Parable. The result is a VR experience unlike anything i’ve ever seen…
As you can see in the video above, Accounting starts you off in an office doing, well office stuff… The first portion actually takes place in a setting eerily similar to Job Simulator. Conicidence? It then appears as though you’ll be tasked with putting on various VR headsets within the game, delving you deeper and deeper into VR in an Inception-like fashion. It becomes painfully clear early on that this game isn’t exactly 100% about the respected and serious business of accounting. So if you were looking for a highly-realistic number-crunching simulator, you’re out of luck for now, chief.
The unique gameplay style of Crows Crows Crows combined with the raunchy humor of Squnachtendo is a match made in heaven. Hopefully other VR developers and studios follow their lead and begin collaborating on various projects in a new wave of virtual reality team-ups. I’d love to see a Tim Schafer/Justin Roiland brainchild.
Accounting will be released later this month on Steam VR for the low, low price of $0.00. Yes, it is 100% free. For more information you can head to accountingvr.com.
