You can now pre-order the consumer version Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus, for only $99.
Consumers will be able to get their hands on the Gear VR headset from a number of retailers including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and Samsung.com and will ship on November 20th. This is the latest version of the headset that we originally previewed and was announced at Oculus Connect 2.
The $99 Gear VR headset not only hits shelves at a lower price from previous developer editions, but comes in 19% lighter with improved ergonomics and will be compatible for all of Samsung’s current line up of smartphones (Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6, and S6 edge).
In addition to pre-orders now opening up for the Gear VR, Oculus has announced a slew of new virtual reality titles and experiences for the launch.
New VR Games
Starting today, a few developers are releasing brand new VR Games like Land’s End by Ustwo Games, Bandit Six: Salvo by Climax Studios, and Dead Secret by Robot Invader are now available in the Oculus Store. And many more titles like Gunjack by CCP and Anshar Wars 2 by OZWE are coming soon!
Oculus Arcade
And with an entirely new type of experience, Oculus has released “Oculus Arcade,” a new way to play old-school game favorites like Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Gauntlet in a virtual arcade. The games range from $1 to $3 and should have quite a few fans excited to download.
On top of all the new titles and the Oculus Arcade announcement, the company has reiterated that they have added more than 200,000 immersive photos to Oculus 360 Photos. On top of the entire Netflix catalog of series, over 70 feature-length films in Oculus Video, and Twitch livestreams galore, there is a ton of content to consume. All this new content is going to keep us busy for awhile and positions the Gear VR as a consumer device, ready for primetime.
