Resident Evil 8 Will Support VR According To Reports

Reports state the next installment will feature a first-person perspective and the return of RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters.

According to a series of new leaks making the rounds online, Capcom’s next installment to their legendary survival horror series Resident Evil will feature VR support for Playstation VR.

According to the Japanese video game new publication Gematsu, “one source familiar with ongoings at Capcom” claims that the upcoming sequel, much like 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will feature a first-person perspective and include support for PlayStation VR.

According to game industry news site VGC, players will once again be taking control of RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters as they navigate a new set of horrifying challenges, including “hallucination and insanity segments” and new mythical enemies like werewolves. Whether these mysterious creatures are real or part of the hallucinations remains to be seen.

VGC goes on to cite a report by “credited insider” Duck Golem, which claims that RE8 was originally developed as part of the Resident Evil: Revelations series, but was adapted for the main timeline after receiving positive feedback from testers at Capcom. The report goes on to state the title will be released next year on current and next-gen consoles. Unfortunately, there’s no mention of a new headset, though based on recent comments by nDreams CEO Patrick O’Luanaigh it sounds as though we shouldn’t expect any new hardware for awhile.

According to Biohazard Cast, the working title is currently “Resident Evil: Village.”

Resident Evil 7 is currently available to play in VR via PSVR and SteamVR.
