Miyamoto Believes VR Still Isn’t Ready For Nintendo

Mario creator believes VR is still too ‘isolating.’

Nintendo’s mysterious ‘NX’ device is still completely under wraps, but a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the celebrated game developer believes that VR is still too limited for iconic characters such as Mario. So while rumors have been stirring about the NX supposedly supporting virtual reality, it appears as though the new tech will most likely not be featured on the upcoming device.

While speaking to USA Today during their surprise press conference regarding their upcoming IOS title Super Mario Run, Miyamoto stated that while it was important for the company to make the push to smartphones, Nintendo still wanted “families to play together, and virtual reality which requires players to be closed off from the real world doesn’t really fit well there.”

While it’s apparent that a majority of current virtual reality games are single-player only, there is still a solid catalogue of multiplayer titles from the mega-popular shooter Hover Junkers, to the incredibly gorgeous space-fighter Elite: Dangerous. So while selection may still be limited, it would be wrong to say that VR is unable to provide a meaningful multiplayer experience.

Not all is lost though, as Miyamoto has previously stated that the company is still actively looking into the technology. So the possibility of a Nintendo VR headset still isn’t out of the question. I don’t know about you, but i’d be satisfied with just a Pokemon Snap VR
