Watching the Super Bowl is one thing, but watching it with loved ones is better.
As millions of fans watched the Super Bowl with friends and family, U.S. military personnel stationed on base in Zagan, Poland got a Super Sunday surprise of their own.
In their latest campaign to make Super Bowl better for the “ones who make that day,” Hyundai selected three soldiers in the 4th Infantry Division to watch the big game with people they probably miss the most while off serving our country — their family.
The tear-jerking surprise moment is captured on video when Hyundai ushers the soldiers to their own private “360-degree live streaming pods,” built to give the soldiers an in-stadium immersive experience. But this wasn’t just to bring the game to life in virtual reality.
As each solider takes a seat and looks around, they realize who they’re actually watching to game with. You’ll just have to watch to video to see the joy.
To bridge this long distance and make it all happen live, Nokia Ozo cameras were placed in seats next to family members invited to the game. The camera fed the livestream to the solider, with a screen also showing a livestream of the solider to their family (packaged together in a huggable bear dressed in uniform).
Teaming up with renowned director Peter Berg (Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon, Lone Survivor), Hyundai also captured the amazing story as it happened live. Also during the game, Super Bowl champions Joe Montana and Mike Singletary were called on to help tell why these fans deserve an experience like no other in a pair of teasers. The videos discussed the value of teamwork and courage, especially as it relates to our troops, all tying back to the efforts of Hyundai’s goal of supporting the U.S. Armed Forces.
The 90-second video ad, created with Agency partner Innocean Worldwide Americas, aired in the so-called “post-gun” slot that airs immediately after the game ends but before the trophy ceremony. Footage from Houston and Poland was edited and produced in a production trailer outside the stadium during the game. When it came to the tech, Hyundai worked with Radiant Images and VRLIVE for the Nokia Ozo livestream, as well as Igloo Vision for the 360° projection.
