HTC Vive Pre-Orders Open February 29

A week after unveiling the Vive Pre, HTC’s second-generation VR headset that comes with a front-facing camera and redesign, the company has announced pre-orders will open February 29th.

First reported by the Telegraph, HTC will is expected to announce the price on February 29th. The Vive will ship in April, but no exact release date is known at this time.

The HTC Vive was supposed to ship in December of last year, but the launch was delayed to include the latest update of a front facing camera that gives users limited augmented reality features.

HTC unveiling a specific date for pre-orders comes on the heels of Oculus opening pre-orders last week to a higher than expected price tag of $600. It should be noted that the HTC Vive is expected to ship with hand controllers, making the HTC Vive a enticing option since the Oculus Rift will begin shipping their Touch controllers until the later half of the year.

Both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift will need to be run off a power gaming PC, so expect to spend close to $1500 for either virtual reality system.
