HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition Launches Next Month

HP’s professional-grade VR headset will be available for purchase this May starting at $1,249.

HP today announced that the HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition will be available for purchase next month starting at $1,249, just over $600 more than the standard HP Reverb G2.

Originally revealed back in September 2020, HP’s professional-grade VR headset offers a variety of enhancements over the basic G2, including an eye-tracking & pupillometry sensor from Tobii, heart rate sensor, and face camera. These new features track everything from your muscle movements and pulse to your gaze and pupil size. The eye-tracking technology also allows for foveated rendering, a resource-saving technique in which only the area the player is looking at is fully rendered.

According to HP, these new features can be used by developers working in both Unreal Engine and Unity to create “hyper-personalized” training solutions for various types of professional enterprises. Launching alongside the HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition will be a new update to the Omnicept SDK introducing ML-powered spatial audio.

“Our collaboration with HP on the development of the HP Omnicept Solution will advance the XR industry in important ways, including improving the efficacy of VR training and simulation,” said David Weinstein, director of virtual reality and augmented reality at NVIDIA. “HP Omnicept works hand-in-hand with NVIDIA’s latest commercial RTX solutions to open new avenues to improve well-being and advance high-fidelity VR experiences with state-of-the-art foveated rendering and spatial audio.”

The HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition will be available for purchase next month starting at $1,249. The Omnicept SDK, however, will be free to access with the option to upgrade their experience depending on their specific needs.

We had the chance to go hands-on with the standard HP Reverb G2 earlier this year. Long story short we thoroughly enjoyed our time with the new and improved PC VR headset. From the crystal clear visuals to the improved ergonomic design, the Reverb G2 remains one of our favorite consumer-friendly PC VR headsets currently available on the market.
