Hotel Transylvania 3 Receives Augmented Playground Experience

Biba partners with Sony Picture Animation to bring Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation to smart playgrounds across the US.

Since its founding in 2014, the folks over at Biba Ventures has dedicated themselves towards integrating AR games and mobile apps into interactive playgrounds across the United States. Using their smartphones, parents can scan specialized access points located at certain “smart” playgrounds to access a variety of family-orientated games.

The latest interactive experience being offered, Hotel Transylvania: Crazy Cruise, harnesses the power of both Apple’s ARKit and Android’s ARCore platforms to allow parents and kids to team-up on an AR adventure that recreates the events of Sony Picture Animation’s most recent release, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

“We’re excited to bring the theme of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation to the playground,” said Biba Venture CEO Matt Toner. “This game allows parents and kids to assume the role of the movie’s characters through collaborative gameplay for a playground adventure they’ll never forget. We’re excited to work with Sony Pictures Consumer Products as they join us in our mission of encouraging kids to play outdoors and motivating parents to join with them.”

As a parent holds up their smartphone, the child is able to traverse the various playground environment and complete an assortment of Drac and Mavis mini-games. Of course they’ll need to watch their step as augmented traps and tribes of monsters lurk throughout multiple islands, each represented as different jungle gym feature, such as the slide or the monkey bars. On top of a variety of challenges and puzzles to complete, kids will also have the opportunity to team-up with their parents to complete objectives, at some points even rescuing them from danger!

“We are excited to work with Biba to bring the Hotel Transylvania franchise into the interactive digital space with the mission of helping children learn to use technology responsibly, while increasing their activity and interaction with their parents,” says Jamie Stevens, Sony Pictures Entertainment Executive Vice President of Worldwide Consumer Products. “Hotel Transylvania: Crazy Cruise bridges the gap between digital and physical play and allows families to experience the world of Hotel Transylvania in a very unique way.”

The idea of AR experiences integrated with “smart” playground technology could bring new levels of attendance to public playgrounds. Biba offers a variety of other smart playground games as well, from dinosaur archeology adventures, to cartoon charades. For more information on local participating parks, visit bibaventures.com.

Hotel Transylvania: Crazy Cruise is available now on iOS and Android for $3.99.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation stars Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Mel Brooks and Adam Sandler and is in theatres now.
