FREE Oculus Rift for Kickstarter Backers

Just over 3 years ago, Oculus launched a Kickstarter to crowd fund the first Oculus Rift development kit (DK1).

As Palmer Luckey states, “The goal of the Kickstarter was to create great virtual reality, to give developers the tools they needed to start experimenting with VR.”

Now just a day before the launch of pre-orders for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, Oculus wants to thank all their early supporters for helping them get to where they are today.

Every Kickstarter backer that pledged for an Oculus DK1 is going to get an Oculus Rift for FREE!

In a statement on Oculus’ site, the company says this will be a “Kickstarter Edition” Oculus Rift that backers will get for free. Whether or not that means this will be a special edition Oculus Rift is still unclear, but like all Rift pre-orders purchased, you’ll receive a bundled copy of Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.

Those who pledged for the DK1 should be receiving an email from Kickstarter with more details on claiming your gift.

“To claim your free Rift, fill out the survey you’ll receive from Kickstarter before February 1, 2016 and provide a shipping address that is located in one of the 20 countries Rift is launching in. For those who don’t live in one of those 20 countries, we’re working on an alternative, and you can let us know your preference in the form.”

Those 20 countries the Oculus Rift is shipping include: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.

“So thanks for making a pledge and helping us change gaming forever. See you in the Rift.” – Palmer Luckey
