Update 3/21/18: Catan VR is available now on Oculus Rift for $14.99 and Gear VR for $9.99. Oculus GO coming soon.
When we first learned Settlers of Catan was coming to VR, not much was revealed at the time. We were told the multiplayer experience would be “optimized for virtual reality” and stay “true to the classic”. But no gameplay was shared, so we had no idea what to expect.
Now the creators of the best-selling board game, with over 22 million copies in 30 languages sold over the past couple decades, is finally teasing us with a first look.
Developed by game studio Experiment 7 in collaboration with the creators of the original creators of Catan, you can check out Catan VR’s announcement trailer below.
Staying true to Catan, you can build settlements, roads, cities and place them on your virtual game board that you and three other players gather around.
One hand shows your resource cards that can be played and traded with the other players.
Catan VR also has cross-play functionality, which means you can play against friends no matter if they have an Oculus Rift or Samsung Gear VR. Catan VR is expected to launch on additional VR headsets, likely after the closed beta.
