As virtual reality continues to make it’s way mainstream, educating developers and consumers on the potential of VR for gaming and storytelling is more important than ever.
Epic Games is hoping to show what the new technology can provide to industries and entertainment alike with their latest virtual reality documentary series, Sense of Presence.
With the release of Epic’s first video of the series, the roughly five minute video features interviews from Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri, Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey, and other influential VR creators in the space.
The video introduces viewers to the concept of virtual reality and how things have changed over time. It also touches on the difficulty of explaining the technology to someone who has never experienced it before but how exhilarating it can be fore some when you actually do try it for the first time.
Sense of Presence is a welcome series, especially at a time where many consumers are just hearing about virtual reality gaming and the major progress that has come over the years. Although Epic Games may be a publisher and developer, they have also shown their commitment to Unreal Engine, a game and experience development tool that creators have been utilizing to build VR experiences.
Earlier this month Epic Games released a demo for developers to download and experience on the Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and HTC Vive platforms of a futuristic robot gun battle. You can watch the non-VR video below:
With VR headsets like the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Playstation VR to hit the shelves early next year, Epic Games is hoping to build a strong developer community around Unreal Engine and let it be known that no matter what headset platform you decide to build on, Epic will be there to support you in your creation.
The next episode in the series, Sense of Presence: Building Virtual Reality, will take a deeper look into creating VR experiences.
