Dragon Front is like Hearthstone for Virtual Reality

The Oculus Rift exclusive is coming Q2 2016.

If your a big fan of Hearthstone or Magic the Gathering, Dragon Front might be the Oculus Rift collectible card game that gets you playing all night in VR.

Released by gaming studio High Voltage, Dragon Front will be available for the Oculus Rift in Q2, 2016, just after the official launch of the VR headset.

In the latest trailer, many of the game mechanics look like Blizzard’s Hearthstone, except for the fact that it has been totally reimagined for virtual reality.

In Dragon Front, players are pitted against each other based on skill level and watch their units come to life on the battlefield as they command the action. There’s also a champion system where each team can summon legendary boss units to the fight and turn the battle in their favor.

Players can choose a faction with unique card attributes and with competitive leaderboards, this could lead to some intense virtual face offs against your opponent.

Each Oculus player has to play on their own PC, which doesn’t lend itself to in-house gaming that well. But you can easily play with anyone else in the world.

Although it is somewhat unique to have a board game in VR, Dragon Front is like having a 3D hologram board game on the table, giving you a much fuller view of gameplay versus just looking on a 2D iPad or computer screen.

With 280 characters, 80 different encampments, and more than 100 spells –Dragon Front could get an entirely new type of gamer interested in VR.

A couple days ago Palmer Luckey teased the community on Twitter that something game related would be announced shortly, and it looks like we now have our answer.

The game creators, High Voltage, are a 23-year old game studio that previously worked on some of the Mortal Kombat games and will also release a first-person shooter called Damaged Core for Oculus as well.
