Disney’s VR Theatre Puts You In The Starring Role Of Aladdin, The Lion King, Frozen

Take center stage in Disney’s biggest Broadway productions at the 2019 D23 Expo.

With over 65,000 in attendance during the 2017 festivities, the biennial D23 Expo is the single largest Disney fan event in the world. Taking place every two years at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, the three-day spectacle manages to attract tens of thousands of rabid Disney fanatics, each looking to dive even deeper into the films, characters, and worlds that have influenced multiple generations of both children and adults.

For this years event, the mass media entertainment conglomerate is celebrating 25 years of Disney on Broadway with an exclusive 75-minute live concert featuring performances by legendary Disney talent, such as Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast), Kissy Simmons (The Lion King), Josh Strickland (Tarzan), and Alton Fitzgerald White (The Lion King); during which a six-piece band will be playing a selection of Disney on Broadway’s Tony Award-winning songs from Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Freaky Friday, and various other hits.

Accompanying this live performance will be a unique VR Theatre experience that will allow users to take center stage of these incredible live performances and surround themselves in the captivating music and fantastical pageantry. Inside the experience, users will step into the starring roles of classic Disney on Broadway performances—such as Frozen, Aladdin, and The Lion King—where they’ll perform alongside Broadway’s Major Attaway (Genie), Telly Leung (Aladdin), Caissie Levy (Elsa), and Tshidi Manye (Rafiki) during the shows biggest musical numbers.

Disney will also be in attendance at the 2019 SIGGRAPH conference later this month. There they will debut their latest VR animation, A Kite’s Tale, which was developed using the same PoseVR software employed during the creation of their previous VR short, Cycles.
