Disney Brings ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to VR

Be our guest, or V-R guest, with this interactive Beauty and the Beast virtual experience.

After months of anticipation, Disney’s modern live action version of Beauty and the Beast was released in theaters on March 17th. To celebrate the release, Disney launched Lumiere’s Dress Rehearsal, a VR tie-in to the film now available on the Oculus Rift.

Fans familiar with Lumiere’s classic musical number will be delighted as they step into the Beast’s dining room, sit down for dinner, and listen as Lumiere (voiced by Ewan McGregor) belts a tune for the ages while enchanted pots, plates, and dishes dance around the table in preparation of a feast in the lucky guest’s honor.

If you don’t have an Oculus Rift, you can still experience the short experience in this 360-degree video shared on Facebook. Gear VR users can expect it on their devices as well next month.

The Beauty and the Beast VR experience is a brand new addition to the also newly launched Disney Movies VR app for Oculus Rift. Previously the Disney VR app was only available on Gear VR and Steam for HTC Vive. The new Beauty and the Beast Rift VR experience also supports the Oculus Touch controllers, letting you really let you grab plates from mid-air and use your hands to interact with the spellbinding world around you. Now’s your chance to really let loose during this dinner party.

The app offers a multitude of new experiences for fans, giving them a chance to step into their favorite worlds and interact with beloved, iconic characters.

Yet another successful launch by Disney? It’s a tale as old as time.
