Competitive VR Dueling Game Blaston Arrives On Headsets Later This Year

Wanna-be gunslingers rejoice!

Resolution Games, developer of popular VR titles such as Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, Bait!, and Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!, today revealed its twelfth title, Blaston, a competitive PvP shooter revolving around intense one-on-one duels.

Shifting gears away from its usual offerings of family-friendly cooperative experiences, Blaston represents the studios first venture into competitive multiplayer gaming. Inside a futuristic, neon-soaked arena, two players engage in a 1v1 duel using an arsenal of unique high-tech weaponry. In order to win players will have to remain on the move and lineup their shots with extreme precision.

“We’ve been playing Blaston behind-the-scenes for quite some time, and Tommy still hasn’t managed to beat me,” joked Mathieu Castelli, Resolution Games’ chief creative officer and producer of Blaston, in an official release. “It’s been a lot of fun. The offices have been filled with shouts of excitement during matches. There’s a real adrenaline rush that comes from the physical intensity!”

In the past, Resolution Games has focused primarily on widely-accessible titles designed for all ages. The developer hopes that Blaston will attract VR’s growing competitive scene, offering players a unique PvP experience unlike other team-based immersive shooters.

Personally, I think the idea of a competitive VR dueling experience sounds incredible. The one-on-one “quick draw” format featured in classic westerns could translate perfectly to VR, allowing players to engage in high-stakes shootouts without the need of a large play space or team of players.

According to Resolution Games, Blaston is on track to launch before the end of 2020. No word yet on what platforms the game will be available, though a brief survey located on the official website may hold several clues. Those looking to signup for additional updates are asked which of the following devices they own: Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, Playstation VR, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality.
