The legendary film festival goes virtual to deliver a series of live talks featuring some of the biggest names in the XR industry.
This week marks part two of XR3, an ambitious collaboration between Cannes XR, Tribeca, and the NewImages Festival that consists of 50 pieces of VR art from immersive artists located around the globe. Festival-goers can purchase a ticket to access a collection of genre-defying art via the Museum of Other Realities, a virtual exhibition space accessible via PC VR headsets.
Along with these incredible works of art, Cannes XR – Marché du Film is also hosting its own series of industry-focused panels featuring some of the biggest names in the world of VR. Over the next three days, you can tune in to conversations ranging from holographic filmmaking and volumetric video storytelling to digital humans and the impact of synthetic media on content creation.
There’s a lot here to enjoy, so we gathered together some of our most-anticipated panels in case you needed a little assistance planning your schedule:
Cannes Next with Samsung Next | Using Synthetic Media to Overcome Barriers to Content Creation | Thursday, July 8th (10 GMT + 2 / 1AM PT)
Synthetic media—content created or altered by artificial intelligence technology—is on the rise within the entertainment industry. Join industry experts as they explore the impact of synthetic media, from chatbots to virtual beings, on modern content creation.
This panel includes Oren Aharon, CEO and founder of Hour One, a video creation platform specializing in the development of both fictional characters and digital recreations of real-world individuals in “voice-photo-real quality”; Royi Benyossef, Director of Investments at Samsung Next, an innovation group within Samsung Electronics dealing with new technologies such as AI and blockchain; and Gil Perry, CEO and Founder of D-ID, a company specializing in facial reenactment technology.

Over the past few years, volumetric capture—sometimes referred to as holographic filmmaking—has seen dramatic improvements in terms of technology and availability, offering a fresh generation of storytellers a new medium for creating mixed reality content using photorealistic 3D models, aka holograms.
This Friday you can listen in on a talk by Krzysztof Pietroszek, Founder & CEO of Tabletop Stories Augmented Reality Corp, a Canadian startup dealing in interactive holographic tabletop storytelling, as he provides fresh insights into how both new and veteran volumetric filmmakers can harness this new technology to develop a brand new form of digital storytelling. Pietroszek is also a professor in the Film and Media Arts Division of the School of Communication at American University in Washington, DC., as well as the Founding Director of the American University Institute for Immersive Designs, Experiences, Applications, and Stories (Institute for IDEAS).
