Has technology gone too far, or not far enough?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you were able to connect with others in the real world while immersed in your favorite VR games and apps?
VFX artist and XR developer Jake Berg thinks so, which is why the digital creator built a pair of mechanical eyes for his Meta Quest 2, and the results are… unsettling, to say the least. In the words of one user who commented on the video: “Wow I hate this, please do more.”
The ungodly contraption was brought to life using a combination of 3D printing, soldering, animatronics, and good old-fashioned elbow grease. Berg claims that the eyes are so realistic that you can’t even tell he’s wearing a VR headset. And based on the footage provided, I’m inclined to agree with him.
“I created eyes for my VR headset because I love VR, but I was struggling to connect with the real people in my life,” said Berg in his video. “So with a little 3D printing, soldering, and animatronics, these beautiful eyes were born.”
Is this the strangest VR-related DIY project you’ve ever seen, or is Berg on to something here? We’ll let you be the judge of that.
