InStyle is giving fans new levels of insider access to fashion shoots and exclusive events with the launch of a new VR series in partnership with Jaunt, InStyle Virtual. The series debuts with a three-minute 360-degree tour on set of the November issue cover shoot starring Drew Barrymore.
Viewers who download the JauntVR app on their smartphone and use a VR viewer like Google Cardboard or the Mattel View-Master, get to pop in behind-the-scenes of the InStyle cover shoot. From styling Barrymore in Stella McCartney and Valentino or listening to Barrymore reveal some of her favorite makeup tips, viewers get to explore immersive glimpses into these more intimate moments with the eight-time InStyle cover girl.
Produced in partnership with Jaunt and their own 360-degree stereoscopic cameras and 3D sound-field microphones like the Jaunt One, the content fully immerses viewers behind-the-scenes allowing complete freedom to look in any direction.
Although VRScout has covered an Elle Canada virtual reality cover shoot in the past, this marks a first for a US fashion media brand and continues to show Jaunt’s focus on content development for a more mainstream consumer. From the runway at a Rebecca Minkoff show to partnering with 7 For All Mankind to create a short virtual reality story, Jaunt is experimenting with a ride range of fashion stories to tell through the new medium.
For those without a VR headset, InStyle will be distributing cardboard viewers to select subscribers with its November issue. Users can also visit the InStyle Virtual landing page to sign up to get a limited-edition VR viewer.
Over the coming months, InStyle Virtual is also planning to release new VR experiences, including a behind-the-scenes look at the inaugural InStyle Awards at the Getty Center on Monday, October 26.
